HUMN240 Pop Culture Bog

I chose the Artifact N sync due to a lot of young females my age that loved them when we was in our pre-teen years. They was my all time favorite boy band around. My cousin's and I use to fight over who we "loved" in the group. My guy was JC, one of the main singers. My cousins Ashley and Kalei both loved Justin and would constantly fight over him. My cousin, Ashley, and I went to one of their concerts and I remember I was amazed by how many teens, and adults were all present there. Needless to say the tickets were all sold out. Today there are some boy bands around, but are not as big as N sync, Backstreet Boys or 98 degrees were. Younger males try to get boy bands together because they want to be liked by younger females, and want groupies like N sync did.

I think you will find that boy bands in general would be considered popular culture artifacts!!! From the early days of rock and roll until today, we have always had one or two “heart-throb” groups out there. Nice Choice!!!

  2. I always considered the bands like this to be an excellent example of the shift in popular music towards producing 'entertainers' more than musicians. Bands that were essentially assembled to meet certain criteria was a stroke of genius. While they were undoubtedly talented, their musical talent was secondary to their ability to perform and appeal to the masses. It was an interesting juxtaposition against more traditional acts that would form on their own and come into fame only after a long period of slowly acquiring fame.
